Sharks Issue Qualifying Offers to Nine Players

The San Jose Sharks have offered qualifying offers to nine players, and will have the rights to negotiate a new contract with them.

The list, according to a press release, is as follows:

T.J. Galiardi C
Matt Irwin D
Tim Kennedy C
Brandon Mashinter LW
Frazer McLaren LW
Matt Pelech F/D
Nick Petrecki D
James Sheppard C
Alex Stalock G

Of these players, Galiardi is the only one not in the minors. He was acquired, along with Daniel Winnik, in a deal that sent Jamie McGinn to the Colorado Avalanche. He scored one goal in fourteen games with the Sharks.

The following players will not be extended qualifying offers, making them unrestricted free-agents and probably will not be returning next season:

Benn Ferriero RW
Tony Lucia LW
James Marcou RW
Cameron MacIntyre RW
Tyson Sexsmith G

Ferriero played in 35 games last season, posting eight points, but was rather inconsistent and sporadic. It is safe to say that he has played his last game as a Shark.

Sexmith, one of the Sharks’ most highly-touted goalie prospects, was surprisingly not given an offer. He was 13-12-7 with a 2.33 GAA with the Worcester Sharks last season.
