Barry Zito will be the San Francisco Giants’ starter in Game 4, if the game becomes necessary with a win by the Giants on Tuesday afternoon in Cincinnati.
The Reds have the 2-0 series advantage, after claiming the first two games on the road in the new 2-3 NLDS format.
Bruce Bochy will be starting Ryan Vogelsong for Game 3, after announcing that Tim Lincecum will be used out of the bullpen — which was the case in Sunday’s Game 2.
However, Bochy said after Game 2 that there was a possibility Lincecum could start Game 4, if necessary.
That is no longer the case, as Zito gets the nod.
Zito has not lost a game since Aug. 2 to the New York Mets.
Since then, Zito has not been perfect, but he has gotten the job done for the Giants. He was arguably the most reliable starting the pitcher the Giants had down the stretch.
In his last six starts, Zito has lasted at least five innings and allowed over three runs only once.
