Brandon Lloyd on Return to 49ers: ‘I Didn’t Explore Any Other Options’

Brandon Lloyd follows a simple three-step plan.

“Not to let the playbook defeat me. To give maximum effort every time and make the plays,” explained Lloyd following the San Francisco 49ers training camp practice on Tuesday.

So far, that approach has been working out quite well for the veteran wide receiver. Lloyd has been drawing praise from his coaches and teammates for how impressively he’s been playing despite the fact that he sat out for all of last season. Rookie corner back Dontae Johnson dubbed Lloyd the most difficult player to face off against in all of the team’s talented receivers corp.

For his part, Lloyd doesn’t make much of the kind words.

“It’s just practice.I expected to come in and give 100 percent and do as best as I could do, and that’s what I’m doing so far. “

The 33-year-old said that the decision to return to the team that drafted him in the fourth round back in 2003 was partially about unfinished business.

“The first time I was here, the team wasn’t winning like the teams in the past,” said Lloyd of his initial three-year tenure with the 49ers. After three consecutive trips to the NFC Championship Game, that’s all changed.

“San Francisco has always held a special place in my heart, and so I didn’t explore any other options.”
