Greg Roman likes what he sees from Michael Crabtree.
“I think this training camp, as I look at it, I think he’s better than the old Michael Crabtree,” said the San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator. Roman then went on to explain in just what ways the wide receiver has stepped up.
“Why? Just, you know, physical conditioning, understanding of the game.”
That improved understanding is a direct result of the injury Crabtree sustained during OTAs in 2013.
“I think he played the game last year under less than ideal circumstances and had to adjust his game a little bit to account for that. So, I think that maybe brought a little bit more, even more experience to his game.”
Roman was impressed by how quickly Crabtree returned to the field a season ago.
“He came off the achilles injury, and really just gutted it out at the end of the year. I don’t have this as a fact, but I don’t know that everyone would have played that early. He didn’t make a lot of fanfare about it, just toughed it out. That’s the kind of guy he is.”
On Thursday, the 26-year-old sat out practice with an undisclosed injury.
“He’s just working through something, he’s fine,” said Roman in a post practice press conference.
