Aldon Smith’s future is out of the San Francisco 49ers’ hands, as Jim Harbaugh explained on Friday.
“I can’t really say, We can control what we can control,” said the 49ers head coach at a press conference. Harbaugh did imply that a resolution could be near.
“It’s a process. We’ve said that all along. The process is transpiring. It’s in its final stages, but the process that we’re looking at is Aldon—now, this month, this year, the rest of his career and on after that.”
The outside linebacker has dominated during training camp, but as Harbaugh pointed out, he’s also been impressed with Smith’s off the field behavior.
“So, pleased and proud to report that things are going extremely well. He’s doing what he says he’s going to do and that’s the opportunity that we were all hoping he would take the reins on and do a great job with. And proud to report so far, so good. “
Smith could be facing a six to eight game suspension.
