I know, I know. I was just a little off with my first round prediction for the Raiders.
However, let’s be honest, how many of you actually had Kahlil Mack actually falling to the Raiders? I did a Twitter poll before the draft and NOBODY saw it coming. For instance, reader Nick Rechtschaffer @WakeOfOrion said “Raiders 100% going WR”
Who could blame him? Who would have thought the Jaguars would take Blake Bortles, that the Bills would make a crazy trade to get Sammy Watkins, and that arguably the best overall player in the NFL draft would inexplicably fall to the Raiders?
This is a simple, easy, no brainer grade for the Raiders in the first round— A+. There’s no debating that the Raiders had one of the best first rounds and they didn’t have to really put much thought into it.
So with that said, the jury is still out on GM Reggie McKenzie. How will he operate today? Will he make this an all time draft for the Raiders or will he make mistakes from here on out?
Here is what GM Erik would do—be patient and see if QB Derek Carr or WR Marquise Lee is available, and if he isn’t, trade the pick down and secure more picks.
I asked Rechtschaffer (since I put him on blast) who he wants today in the second round and he said “it has to be Carr, there isn’t a wide receiver worth taking at this point”. So naturally, they’re probably picking a Wide Reciever today.
With that said, I’m throwing down the gauntlet again, Raider Nation, who are you picking? If you’re right, I’ll name you on here and you will have immortality and proof for bragging rights for all of your friends. Yesterday, NOBODY was right, so here’s hoping we can reverse that trend today.
RAIDERS FIRST ROUND GRADE: A+
ERIK’S SECOND ROUND PICK PROJECTION: Marquise Lee, WR, USC
ERIK’S THIRD ROUND PROJECTION: David Yankey, G, Stanford
