The Giants walked off for the second time in as many games on Monday night as they beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 in ten innings.
Tim Lincecum allowed just two runs through eight innings of work at AT&T Park. He walked one and struck out three, the first time he’d struck out so few in an eight-inning outing.
Poor fundamentals hurt the Giants early in the field. The Rockies were able to put a run up on the board after Yorvit Torrealba grounded out. Nolan Arenado was able to easily score from second when Lincecum didn’t cover home on the 2-3 putout. A dropped pop up in the sixth didn’t hurt San Francisco on the scoreboard, but it was another mental error.
Buster Posey hit his 15th home run of the season off Jhoulys Chacin in the second inning to tie the game at one. After the Rockies went ahead in the next inning, the score remained unchanged until Brandon Belt tied it up in the eighth with an RBI double to score Angel Pagan. A single to left allowed Pagan to score once more and give the Giants another walkoff win.
The Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks tonight, officially eliminating the Giants from the NL West race. The Wild Card magic number before elimination is now two.
Tomorrow the Giants face the Rockies for Game 2 of this three game series. Ryan Vogelsong will take on Jorge De La Rosa at 7:15pm.
