With Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree locked in as the starters and Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton and Brandon Lloyd all impressing, it’s easy to forget about Stevie Johnson.
The Bay Area native, who the team picked up in a draft-day trade, has hauled in just a single catch during the preseason. Still, offense coordinator Greg Roman expects the 28-year-old to be a key contributor.
“I think he’ll bring a lot to the table. Have a good feel for his skillset. I love his energy out there.”
Roman wouldn’t offer a direct response when asked if Johnson is the team’s top option after Boldin and Crabtree.
“We don’t put numbers on them.We don’t put numbers on them.”
Roman also didn’t provide much clarity when asked if Johnson would be the first player up in a three-receiver set.
“It depends. It depends. I think we’ll have some flexibility.”
