San Francisco 49ers Aldon Smith Sentenced For Weapons and DUI Charges

Aldon Smith has been sentenced for weapons and DUI charges, according to Tracey Kaplan of the San Jose Mercury News.

As Kaplan notes, the San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker can avoid actually going to jail by taking part in a work program instead. The prosecutor in the case said that the 24-year-old was partying with Norteño street gang members when the weapons were seized, per Damian Trujillo of NBC Bay Area.

The 24-year-old offered the following remarks during his sentencing, via Trujillo.

GM Trent Baalke provided  a statement on the matter, per Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Smith still is likely to face a suspension from the NFL. When asked about that matter by Damon Bruce on 95.7 The Game, 49ers CEO Jed York said the league had provided no “timetable” for when a potential ban would be announced. Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News tweets that “he wouldn’t be surprised” if the announcement comes “fairly soon.”
