Chris Wondolowski is far more than a poacher.
In the 31st minute of the San Jose Earthquakes 2-2 tie with the LA Galaxy, the striker backheeled a pass into the path of Matias Perez Garcia to set up the newly-signed attacker for his first ever goal with the club.
“I always try to do whatever I can to help the team win, whether that is scoring goals, trying to set up goals or find the open guy,” said Wondolowski after the second installment of the California Clasico.
The assist was his third in as many games, but Wondolowski gave all the credit to his teammates.
“To be honest, all three goals that came from my assists were great finishes. I just made the pass to the open guy and my teammates did most of the work.”
The quality of Wondolowski’s setup didn’t go unnoticed by Perez Garcia.
“There was a good ball played into the middle and I didn’t have any doubts when it came to me and I just focused and hit it. The goal really gave me a confidence boost and that will help me as a we got the next match.”
